Blue Dolphin Employees Join in Pledge to Never Forget 9/11

As they have for the last seven years, employees of B-K Lighting, TEKA Illumination, Star Finishes and Blue Dolphin Design & Engineering have gathered for a 9/11 Memorial Service acknowledging the brave men and women who performed unselfish acts of heroism on September 11, 2001 when the United States was attacked by terrorists.
“Many lives were changed that day, our world was changed that day,” said Douglas W. Hagen, President and CEO of B-K Lighting in his keynote address. “We were awakened to the fact that there are people in the world that would destroy innocent lives, American lives, to advance their twisted ideology. We realized that day that we need protection, and we asked the question; who will provide that protection? And that day we got our answer, our military.”
During his speech, Hagen pledged a donation on behalf of the company to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, which provides unrestricted grants to the families of those who have been lost in Iraq and Afghanistan in the defense of America’s freedom. This is the sixth consecutive year the company has contributed to the Fund.
Hagen went on to say, “We have held this ceremony for the last seven years in remembrance of the brave men and women who preformed unselfish acts of heroism and that continue to do so today.” B-K Lighting and its employees have supported many memorials around the country, donated to support groups and supplied our military personnel with gifts on a monthly basis, including:
Flight 93 Memorial, Union City, CA: B-K lighting donated Precision2 fixtures that uplight each marker with the name of each hero that died that day in bring down Flight 93, thus averting an additional tragedy.
Memorial Park, New York, NY: B-K Lighting designed and manufactured custom fixtures for the former Zuccotti Park, where the 9/11 ceremonies are held annually.
The Sphere, Battery Park, New York, NY: B-K Lighting fixtures illuminate a sculpture salvaged from the courtyard of the Twin Towers.
Care Packages: On a monthly basis, employees donate food, toiletries and other needed items, which are then sent as care packages to three soldiers currently serving overseas.
Flag Pole Dedication: We installed and lighted a flagpole at the entrance to our companies where we proudly fly our American flag and dedicated it to our fallen heroes with a lighted plaque.
Illuminating Recipes: With input from our employees and sales representatives, we produced a wonderful cookbook called “Illuminating Recipes.” We sold these cook books and donated the proceeds to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.
More than 120 people attended this year’s event including local business associates, family members and members of Boy Scout Troup 223–Sequoia Chapter.
