Help With A Special Project Jun 23, 2009 Dear Friends and Family,
I hope all is well with you. Please give me a few minutes to let you know about an important project I am undertaking.
On Saturday, September 12th, 2009 I will be competing in a triathlon in Pacific Grove, California as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training. I will be competing in this event to honor my friend Sergio Witrado who was diagnosed only weeks ago with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML). He has started chemotherapy treatment with the amazing drug GLEEVEC but he still has a long road ahead with no guarantee of an outcome.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a national voluntary health agency dedicated to curing Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and Myeloma and improving the quality of life of patients and their families. Leukemia is the number one killing disease of children, yet affects 10 times as many adults. The cause of Leukemia is unknown. However, the effectiveness of recently developed treatment methods (like GLEEVEC) and steady advances in research brings us closer to every day to finding the cause of Leukemia and related cancers and probable cures.
I have already begun my training for the 0.9 mile swim in Monterey Bay (burrrr!), 24.9 mile bike ride along the coast and 6.2 mile run past the Monterey Bay Aquarium with the help of the Team in Training coaches. You may think that this is a tremendous undertaking and one that many would never consider attempting. However it pales in comparison to what the sufferers of this disease must endure.
So here is the deal I want to make with you. I am going to do the hard part - the hundreds of miles of riding, running and swimming to train for this competition over the next few months and the triathlon itself. I would like you’re help with the easy part. I have committed to raising $3200 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I have attached a mail in form and I have enclosed a link for your tax-deductible contributions. You can contribute online at http://pages.teamintraining.org/cca/pactri09/mjacksotfv or click here to download the donation form.
Ok - So I’ll help you out a little more. For every $250.00 you donate, I’ll give you a 1/3 of a case of Vineyard 208 wine (a $100.00 value). Just e-mail me after you contribute I’ll check the list and get you your wine. Or you can choose to help further by not accepting the wine.
On behalf of Sergio, as well as all of the other Leukemia patients I want to thank you for any help. I truly appreciate your kindness. Feel free to call or e-mail me to wish me good luck on this adventure.
Warmest Regards,
Mark Jackson
